Arsenal confirm departure of ‘intelligent’ star, 13 academy players, and six others

Arsenal have announced that 20 players will depart the club this month.

The list includes experienced midfielder Jorginho, who is set to join the Brazilian side Flamengo.

Previously described by manager Mikel Arteta as ‘intelligent,’ Jorginho joined Arsenal from rivals Chelsea in January 2023. He made 79 appearances and recorded five goal involvements.

English forward Raheem Sterling will leave upon the expiration of his one-year loan from Chelsea. He featured in 28 matches and chipped in with six goal contributions.

Left-back Kieran Tierney will also depart after spending six years with the North London side. He made 144 appearances and recorded six goals as well as 14 assists.

Goalkeeper Neto will return to Bournemouth after the expiration of his season-long loan. He made just one appearance for the club.

The quartet will be joined by 13 academy players and three players from the Women’s team.

Khayon Edwards, the U21s’ top scorer last season and nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Year, is one of the academy players leaving.

The young striker joined Arsenal at the age of 5 and represented the U18s and U21s but did not debut for the first team.

The Gunners have also decided to part ways with Nathan Butler-Oyedeji who joined the club at the age of 8.

The 22-year-old played for the U21s and U18s and featured twice for the first team.

Teyah Goldie, Linar Hurtig, and Amanda Ilestedt have also made their last appearances for Arsenal Women.

The Gunners have confirmed that they are in talks with midfielder Thomas Partey, young star Michal Rosiak, and Women’s team forward Chloe Kelly about extending their contracts.
