Celtics may trade more than just Porzingis and Holiday this offseason

According to [Michael Scotto of HoopsHype](https://hoopshype.com/lists/nba-intel-celtics-trade-candidates-james-hardens-free-agency-timberwolves-kings/), the Boston Celtics’ trade fire sale may include more than just Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday this summer: Sam Hauser is also on the block. “Another trade candidate to keep an eye on in the eyes of NBA executives around the league is sharpshooter Sam Hauser, a career 42 percent shooter from beyond the arc and has been a consistent rotation player for Boston the past three seasons,” Scotto wrote.

Porzingis and Holiday were also mentioned in Scotto’s reporting, and the former “is viewed by executives around the league as Boston’s top trade candidate to trim salary for next season.”

Trading Hauser makes sense, but it could also come back to bite the Celtics.

**Celtics may already have Sam Hauser replacement**

---------------------------------------------------

Hauser is set to make just over $10 million next year and will be starting a four-year, $45 million contract. His consistent three-point shooting is [extremely valuable](https://hardwoodhoudini.com/boston-celtics-avoid-trade-mistake-sam-hauser-fans-wont-understand-until-too-late-jrue-holiday-kristaps-porzingis-three-point-shooting), and for a Celtics team that will have some massive contracts on the books (Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Derrick White), the next time they compete for a championship, having those types of contracts is crucial.

At the same time, that means he will undoubtedly have value around the league, which means the Celtics could clear some cap space _and_ get some decent assets back in return.

On top of that, as pointed out by Scotto in his article, the Celtics may believe in Baylor Scheierman as a potential Hauser replacement.

“When Boston drafted Baylor Scheierman 30th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft, some NBA talent evaluators pointed to him as an eventual possible replacement for Hauser after he shot 39 percent beyond the arc in five collegiate seasons,” Scotto wrote.

**What teams could be interested in Sam Hauser?**

-------------------------------------------------

Any team around the league would love to get its hands on Hauser. He’s a consistent 40% three-point shooter who can hold his own on the defensive end.

The Detroit Pistons will have some cap space this summer and could definitely use a player like Hauser to help space the floor for Cade Cunningham and the rest of their team.

Similarly, the Orlando Magic should be scouring the league for shooting to put around Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner. They tried to add shooting last season, but Kentavious Caldwell-Pope didn’t pan out as well as they had hoped.

Hauser’s three-point shooting is invaluable, especially considering how consistent he has been throughout the course of his career. And with his relatively cheap, long-term contract in mind, teams should be chomping at the bit to add him to their roster.
