Romano revealed that Kerkez had already agreed on personal terms to join the club, though it seems that Kerkez has had his eyes set on a move to a bigger club for a while now. The Reds are also focused on a battle with Manchester City for Florian Wirtz, though they are “confident” in their ability to win that race.
Kerkez the ‘Perfect’ Solution to Andy Robertson Problem
Liverpool’s weakest position this season has arguably been at left-back, with Andy Robertson ageing and struggling both defensively and offensively, potentially due to his lack of fitness. This has seen Kostas Tsimikas start nine games in the league, though the Greek international is not of good enough quality for the Premier League champions.
Meanwhile, Kerkez has had a stellar season, with many granting him a place in their Team of the Season. Importantly, the Hungarian fits Liverpool’s style in terms of play-style. He is an attacking full-back, often playing as a wing-back or even as a wide midfielder for his nation.

For Bournemouth, he helps drive with the ball to begin attacks, and always provides the overlapping option to his winger, with a pinpoint cross in his game. This is a similar skill set to what Robertson once had and, whilst this was mostly utilised under Jurgen Klopp, replacing him well will likely help Arne Slot integrate his new signing into the side.
Kerkez has come on leaps and bounds defensively this season for the Cherries. His first season was strong, though he had his critics in one-on-one situations, often making rash tackles. However, this season he has stepped up to the plate and been a crucial part of Andoni Iraola’s (ultimately failed) push for Europe. It seems that he is now ready for a higher level, and whilst he may not displace Robertson instantly, he will surely be the “perfect” replacement to do so before the end of the season.
