Arsenal are in discussions to sign England international Chloe Kelly on a permanent basis following her successful loan spell from Manchester City.

Kelly, 27, joined the Gunners in January after requesting to leave City in pursuit of happiness and a fresh start. Since her arrival, the Lionesses winger has made a significant impact, scoring twice in 13 appearances and playing a vital role in Arsenal’s run to the UEFA Women’s Champions League title. She started in last month’s final in Lisbon, where Arsenal defeated Barcelona to lift the trophy.

With Kelly’s contract at Manchester City set to expire at the end of the month, Arsenal are hoping to secure her services permanently. The club confirmed on Wednesday that contract talks with Kelly are ongoing.

“Discussions are ongoing, and once matters are finalised between all parties, we will communicate in due course,” Arsenal said in an official statement.

The announcement came as Arsenal also confirmed the departures of Amanda Ilestedt, Lina Hurtig and Teyah Goldie.

Kelly has spoken positively about her time in North London, suggesting she would be open to staying.

“I said I was coming to this club to find happiness with football and I have a medal round my neck,” she told the BBC after the Champions League final. “Every day that I come into the club I’m smiling. They put the smile back on my face so I will forever be grateful for that.”

Reflecting on her move and future, she added: “Who knows [what will happen]. I just know I have given my all for the club and the club has given their all for me, so I’m always grateful.”

Arsenal fans will now wait in hope that the winger, who has quickly become a fan favourite, will be part of the club’s future beyond the summer.
