The Cleveland Browns have five quarterbacks currently on their roster, but none of them really stand out as the starting guy just yet.
So the team could look to the trade market to acquire a veteran as a result.
In a recent article by ESPN, they put together some trades for three of the players who have had a lot of buzz surrounding them this offseason. One of them is Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins, and they think the Browns could make a move that involves their backup, Kenny Pickett.
"This destination always made the most sense for Cousins, who has a long history with Browns coach Kevin Stefanski from their time together in Minnesota," ESPN wrote. "After going through OTAs and minicamp, the Browns might realize they need another veteran to compete for the starting job... The Falcons could strike a deal where they front $17.5 million of Cousins' guaranteed money for 2025, and Pickett would be Atlanta's new QB2."
Pickett's role on the Browns is a bit of a question mark, as the team has two rookies in Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel, then has two veterans in Deshaun Watson and Joe Flacco. Pickett falls somewhere in the middle, so trading him could be something for the team to consider.
Cousins is coming off of a somewhat disappointing season with just 3,508 yards and 18 touchdowns, but some of that may be attributed to the fact that he still was not confident after the Achilles injury he suffered in 2023.
If the Browns decide they want a short-term answer at quarterback other than Flacco, then trying to trade for Cousins while he will be the cheapest could be an intriguing option.
