Pedri has confirmed that [Bayern Munich](https://www.bavarianfootballworks.com) tried to sign him, but the [FC Barcelona](https://www.barcablaugranes.com) star made it clear that leaving his dream club was never an option.
“They were interested in me,” he admitted, “but my love for Barcelona is unconditional. It’s the club of my dreams, and it would be very difficult to leave.”
The 22-year-old midfielder is coming off a remarkable season, after helping Spain win Euro 2024. He turned heads and played a central role in Barcelona’s domestic treble. Now preparing for the Nations League semfinal against France, Pedri said winning the title would be the ideal way to close out a near-perfect year both individually and with his teams.
Though he says he doesn’t focus much on individual awards, Pedri acknowledged the growing attention on midfielders like himself following Rodri’s Ballon d’Or win. He said he was proud to be in the conversation for this year’s prize, but insisted he’d wait until the season is over before giving it much thought.
Facing France means going up against Kylian Mbappé, whom Pedri called one of the best players in the world. He emphasized that maintaining possession - Spain’s trademark style - will be crucial in overcoming the fast-paced French squad. Despite some calling the Nations League a minor trophy, Pedri said that “a title is a title” and that Spain would take the games seriously.
_La Roja_ will be without Rodri for the match, which Pedri admitted was a big loss, but he insisted he was ready to step up in his midfield mate’s absence.
Pedri also touched on how his role this season at Barcelona allowed him to stay more involved in the game, which he feels is when he performs best. Looking ahead, he said winning the Nations League would give Spain strong momentum heading into the next FIFA World Cup.
