Sterling not expected to rejoin Chelsea for CWC even as Arsenal confirm departure — report

Raheem Sterling was able to engineer a loan move to Arsenal last summer, and the hope was, however faint it might have been, that he might showcase his talents well enough to either earn a permanent move to the Gunners, or at least entice some other team to take him in next.

On Wednesday, Arsenal officially confirmed his departure from the team, after what was easily the worst season as a senior professional for Sterling. He made just 28 appearances (13 starts, 7 in the league) and scored just one (1) goal: both career-lows in what is now a 13-year career at or near the very top of the English game.

So what’s next for Sterling at age 30? (Still just 30!)

He has two more years left on his Chelsea contract, but it’s quite unlikely that we’ll see him in a Chelsea shirt ever again. He won’t even be saddling up for the Club World Cup with us, as per Ben Jacobs (a fate that his fellow bomb-squaders will surely share), who adds that talks over his future will be happening this month.

Listen: Wrexham. Who says no?
