Marcus Rashford is pushing to join FC Barcelona this summer and is reportedly ready to take a major pay cut to make the transfer possible, according to a new report. The England international, who spent the latter half of the 2024–25 season on loan at Aston Villa, has reportedly made it clear that Barcelona is his top priority.
The Catalan giants are searching for a new winger ahead of the upcoming season. Sporting director Deco has said the team needs another wide option to ease the pressure on Raphinha and Lamine Yamal, who were heavily relied on during the past campaign. Two players top Barcelona’s list: Liverpool’s Luis Díaz and Manchester United’s Rashford. While Díaz is highly rated, his high price tag makes the deal difficult given Barcelona’s ongoing financial struggles.
Rashford, on the other hand, offers several advantages. He’s not only keen to play for Barça but is also said to be willing to significantly reduce his current wages - estimated at nearly 18 million euros a year - to fit within the club’s tight salary limits. He had already shown this willingness during the winter transfer window, when he waited for a Barcelona move that ultimately didn’t happen due to La Liga’s financial fair play restrictions. Instead, he joined Aston Villa on loan.
Now that Rashford is returning to Manchester United, Barcelona is once again considering him as a serious option. His market value is around 40 million euros, which means the club would have to negotiate a transfer fee. However, United may be open to selling, especially if they’re eager to offload players this summer.
What strengthens Rashford’s case is his continued patience and commitment. He’s prepared to wait until the end of the transfer window for Barcelona, just as he did in January. Talks reportedly have already taken place between his camp and the club, and sources suggest that Rashford’s determination to wear the Barcelona shirt could be the key to sealing the deal.
While challenges remain, especially regarding finances, Rashford’s flexibility and strong desire to join Barça make him one of the most realistic targets for the summer.
