Manchester City have been crowned England’s most valuable club after a new report has been revealed.

The Football Clubs’ Valuation report ranks the top 32 European sides based on their enterprise value, which represents the total worth of a club, including their equity and debt.

The analysis factors in profitability, popularity, sporting potential, broadcasting rights and stadium ownership when ranking clubs.

It said Real Madrid remain the most valuable club in the world with a £5.22billion valuation, while Man City are in second place with £4.24billion.

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider that valuation is within the right ballpark for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Man City posted a record-breaking revenue in 2023-24 as their turnover increased from £713million to £715million.

Manchester United featured third on the list of most valuable clubs with a £4.2billion valuation, with Liverpool sitting sixth with £3.5billion and Arsenal in seventh with £3.33billion.

Tottenham and Chelsea also made it into the top 10 with £3.04billion and £2.51billion valuations.

Man City set for premium valuation after Chelsea deal

Borson insisted Man City’s valuation is likely to be at a premium to the £4.25billion BlueCo paid to buy Chelsea in May 2022.

He told Football Insider: “The City valuation is in the ballpark.

“I think it’s very hard to be precise on what the clubs are worth, and there are no football clubs that have transacted in whole at these sorts of levels.

“Chelsea is the closest as we know, and you would think that City would be at a premium to that.

“So, I don’t think it’s wholly surprising given the Chelsea valuation didn’t account for the fact that they effectively needed a new stadium at some point in the next let’s say 10 years, which is an enormous burden on any club.

“Likewise, the Manchester United implied valuation was only for a minority in quite specialist situations, and they couldn’t get what they wanted from the market in terms of somebody being prepared to buy it.

“The universe of potential buyers is very small for these football clubs. Therefore, you have to take the valuations with a pinch of salt because they’re not tested in the market.

“You have to actually see what things are actually bought for as opposed to what they might be worth on a piece of paper.”

Man City could agree Morgan Gibbs-White swap deal

In terms of on-field matters, Man City have identified multiple transfer targets to improve their squad, including Morgan Gibbs-White.

Football Insider revealed on 31 May Man City could let Jack Grealish or James McAtee go as part of a swap deal to lure Gibbs-White away from Nottingham Forest.

Sources say Forest want at least double the £42.5million they paid Wolves for the England international’s signature in 2022, but could be tempted to accept a swap deal.

Football Insider revealed on 29 April McAtee is considering quitting Man City for Forest in a bid to kickstart his career.
