Darwin Nunez’s Liverpool future feels like it’s more or less sealed with the Uruguay international failing to live up to expectations over the last couple of seasons.
Indeed, Nunez did have the odd impressive game here and there with the Anfield outfit’s 2-0 win over Brentford back in January among his most important.
Saudi Pro League clubs have shown an interest in Nunez since the January transfer window, with it now feeling like the striker is further out the door than he is in.

However, once the Uruguay international does exit Anfield, Arne Slot will have to source a replacement for him as soon as possible.
David Ornstein believes Alexander Isak or Hugo Ekitike could move to Liverpool
As with most clubs across Europe, Liverpool are looking for a consistent number nine who can score a decent amount of goals across all competitions.
Numerous names have been thrown into the hat for Liverpool, but according to David Ornstein, two names top that list.
“The future of Darwin Nunez has been well documented,” he said on The Athletic FC Podcast.
“There’s an opportunity for him to leave. I think the expectation is that he will be sold, and therefore, we could see somebody come in in that position.

“I think Liverpool are among those understandably that have liked Alexander Isak.
“There’s admiration for somebody like Hugo Ekitike. Decisions will have to be made, and I’m sure that’s something Liverpool are thinking about and will have multiple options, no doubt, if and when that situation develops.”
Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike would be stellar signings for Liverpool
Although a new left-back is likely one of Slot’s main areas to strengthen during the summer transfer window, Liverpool could really do with a number nine who can score goals regularly.
Isak has been setting the Premier League alight with his form for Newcastle this season, with Liverpool seeming to be the team most likely to make a move for the Sweden international this summer.
Ekitike’s name has also been thrown into the ring, with Chelsea also rumoured to be interested in the Frankfurt ace.
Both players have put in some impressive numbers throughout the campaign, but with Liverpool’s move for Florian Wirtz now nearing completion, that’s going to take a hefty chunk of their transfer budget, even if they sell a lot of their first-team players.
Player Games Goals Assists
Alexander Isak 42 27 6
Darwin Nunez 47 7 7
Hugo Ekitike 48 22 12
the 2024-25 seasons of Nunez, Ekitike and Isak in numbers.
Harvey Elliott and Jarell Quansah are just two names that spring to mind regarding potential Anfield exits, but even their sales wouldn’t cover half of the fee for Isak or Ekitike.
Indeed, only time will tell what the future holds, but if Liverpool can bring one of them in before the 2025-26 season kicks off, Slot could be in for another season of pure dominance.
