Arsenal could go and sign £55m attacker if his transfer now collapses at the last minute - journalist

Arsenal are looking to add to their attacking ranks heading into the summer transfer window.

Arsenal will sign a new striker this summer, and a new winger is seemingly also on Mikel Arteta’s transfer wishlist.

Indeed, Arsenal have been linked with a number of exciting wide players in recent times.

Arsenal have been linked with Nico Williams, while Rafael Leao is also on the Gunners’ agenda.

Arsenal had been linked with Bryan Mbeumo at one point, but now, it looks like Mbeumo could be headed to Manchester United instead.

However, according to Sami Mokbel, speaking on the Highbury Squad YouTube channel, Arsenal could still move for Mbeumo if his move to Old Trafford falls apart.

Arsenal could swoop if Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United collapses

Arsenal have historically had plenty of interest in Bryan Mbeumo, according to Mokbel.

The journalist says Arsenal have seriously looked into this signing, but Mbeumo is likely to sign for Manchester United in a deal worth around £55m.

However, if that deal was to fall through for any reason, Mokbel reckons Arsenal would be there to pick up the pieces.

“I think Bryan Mbeumo is probably going to be ending up at Man United. I think that probably will happen,” Mokbel said.

“But I do know that Arsenal had a big interest in him and have tried. I think perhaps what Man United put on the table may be more favourable than Arsenal, and I think that perhaps that might be why he’s chosen to go to Man United.

“If the Mbeumo deal, for whatever reason, didn’t happen, I would not be surprised to see Arsenal be there or thereabouts to try to pick up the pieces of that deal.”

Bryan Mbeumo compared to Bukayo Saka

Arsenal tried for Mbeumo, but it would appear he’s more keen on a move to Manchester United.

It’s easy to understand why Mbeumo may not have been too keen on a move to the Emirates. After all, his competition down the right wing would’ve been coming from Bukayo Saka.

Saka is Arsenal’s best player in the eyes of many, but when you look at the stats, there’s an argument to make that Mbeumo is actually better than Saka.

Of course, Arsenal shouldn’t be making any signings with a view to replacing Bukayo Saka, but if Mbeumo did come to the Emirates, Mikel Arteta would have a big decision to make.

As things stand, Mbeumo looks set for a move to Old Trafford, but, if that move falls through, keep an eye on Arsenal.
