Arsenal 'in talks' to sign wonderkid as Mikel Arteta eyes new record transfer

Arsenal are in talks to sign Greek wonderkid Konstantinos Karetsas, according to reports.

Karetsas, 17, is widely regarded as one of the brightest young talents in European football as has been on the Gunners' radar for months. According to reports in his homeland, Karetsas won't come cheap with a €45m (£38) price tag on his head.

Karetsas currently turns out in the Belgian Pro League for Genk, but truly earned plaudits during his performance for Greece in their 3-0 win over Scotland in Glasgow earlier this year.

The Gunners' new sporting director Andrea Berta has been instrumental in progressing talks and Arsenal already enjoy a strong working relationship with Karetsas' agent - who oversaw his other client, Albert Sambi Lokonga, move to north London in 2021.

According to the Athenian-Macedonian news agency, Arsenal want to complete the deal this summer, but would allow the youngster to remain on loan at Genk for the 2025/26 campaign.

If the deal makes it across the line, the youngster would smash the Greek transfer record, beating Panagiotis Retsos' record that saw him move from Olympiacos to Bayer Leverkusen for £17m.
