How the Portuguese press honestly felt about Nelson Semedo’s performance vs Germany

Time is running out for Wolves to tie Nelson Semedo down to a new deal, with his contract set to expire later this month.

Wolves have offered Semedo a contract, but as it stands, he will be leaving Molineux at the end of June, marking the end of a successful five-year stint.

With Semedo fielding interest from Galatasaray and clubs from across the world, it has made it increasingly difficult to give him a new deal.

After their final day draw against Brentford, Semedo said he was assessing his options, with supporters expecting him to make a decision in the coming weeks.

So, it looks like the end of the road for the 31-year-old at Wolves, who was in action for his country on Wednesday night.

Portugal are looking to become the first team in Nations League history to win the competition twice, and on Wednesday, they booked their place in the final with a win over Germany.

Goals from Francisco Conceicao and Cristiano Ronaldo cancelled out Florian Wirtz’s first-half opener as Portugal placed themselves on the verge of history.

Semedo started the game on the bench, with Joao Neves playing out of position at right-back, but he made a positive impact after being introduced in the 58th minute.

In their post-match ratings, he was rated a 6/10 by Portuguese outlet A Bola, who wrote: “Provided greater defensive solidity and less daring on the right flank, allowing Nuno Mendes, on the other side, to venture further forward.”

Semedo’s strength defensively was noticeable, clearly providing more balance than Neves on the right flank, with ZeroZero also rating him a 6/10.

Despite only playing the final half an hour, he completed 90% of his passes (9/10), won one aerial duel and sent one cross into the box.

How Pedro Neto rated vs Germany

While Wolves fans were only interested in Semedo’s performance against Germany, former superstar Pedro Neto was in action.

He started on the left flank and was arguably their biggest threat in the first half, demonstrating his searing pace and dribbling qualities against Joshua Kimmich.

Neto has struggled at Chelsea at times since joining last summer, but A Bola rated his performance a 7/10 against Germany and wrote: “A great first half. He came close to scoring twice and was the first to break through a German defence that would prove to be permeable. He was exhausted after 83 minutes.”

Neto and Semedo will now come up against either Spain or France in Sunday’s final, with both sides in action tonight.
