Bruno Guimaraes fires back at pundit again as remarkable Newcastle United stat emerges

No Premier League player covered more ground this season than Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes.

The 27-year-old was an ever-present in the Premier League, with Bruno Guimaraes starting all 38 games for Newcastle United.

He was once again an influential figure in the middle of the park for the Magpies, as they qualified for the Champions League.

Throughout the 2025/26 Premier League season, Bruno covered a distance of 421km in the black and white of Newcastle. He was well clear of Crystal Palace’s Daniel Munoz, who was second with 389.6km.

Bruno possesses incredible running power, and is always eager to remind former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy of that fact.

Bruno Guimaraes sends new message to Danny Murphy

For the second season in a row, Bruno Guimaraes covered the most ground in the Premier League.

During the 2023/24 campaign, he was top of the charts with a distance of 423.09km.

While he has not been able to eclipse that figure this season, he has been able to retain his crown.

Reacting to the statistic on his official Instagram account, Bruno wrote: “Twice in two seasons in a row! But he isn’t athletic is he?”

The Brazilian midfielder added a laughing emoji at the end, as he once again hit back at what Danny Murphy said about him in 2024.

During an appearance on TalkSPORT in February 2024, Murphy claimed that Bruno is ‘not a great athlete’.

“Yes, absolutely,” he said when asked if Bruno has a problem with athleticism.

“That is what will stop him being one of the best, because everything else in his game is superb. Great passer, technically gifted. But he’s not a great athlete.

“I feel for him because I was the same. I had to be on top of my game to look a good player. When I was below my best physically, I looked a bit lethargic and sloppy at times.

“He needs real athletes around him to shine.”

Bruno fired back at Murphy a few months later, and has now done the same again in 2025.

Bruno Guimaraes’ goal contributions in 2024/25 vs 2023/24

Bruno covered slightly less ground in the 2024/25 season compared to the 2023/24 season, while he also provided fewer goals and assists.

The captain scored five times and got eight assists in all competitions, while the 2023/24 campaign saw him score seven goals and provide 10 assists.

Despite getting four fewer goal contributions, it has still been another outstanding season from Bruno.

His partnership with Sandro Tonali has flourished, while he captained Newcastle United to Carabao Cup glory.

Bruno was also named in Gary Neville’s team of the season, alongside Toon teammate Alexander Isak.
