FC Barcelona star Pedri is one of the top young players in the world and — at one point — Bayern Munich was hot on his heels.
The story is well-known, as then-Bayern Hansi Flick wanted to bring in the midfielder, but now, Pedri is addressing it.
“They were interested in me, but my love for Barcelona was unconditional. It’s the club of my dreams and it will be very difficult to leave there,” Pedri told Diario AS (as captured by Football Espana).
Now, there is at least some noise that Pedri could be a candidate for the Ballon d’Or — something he would gladly accept even if he is not solely focused on individual accolades.
“I don’t look at individual awards much, but since Rodri won the Ballon d’Or, it’s different. Because they didn’t usually focus on midfield players. The titles with the national team weigh a lot and this has changed,” said Pedri. “We are facing a Nations League final. The most important thing is the team. I am proud that they have me in some conversations. But I will save my vote for when everything is over and that is how it will be.”
If he keeps his current progress up, there could be many individual awards headed his way soon enough.
