Exclusive: Danny Rohl emerges as the frontrunner for Leicester City job, but they have a back-up plan

EFL Analysis can exclusively reveal that Danny Rohl is the leading contender to land the Leicester City job.

Leicester are yet to sack Ruud van Nistelrooy and had initially looked set to appoint Russell Martin, but those plans were scuppered after he chose to join Rangers.

Rohl will almost certainly leave Sheffield Wednesday this summer and has previously been linked with the Foxes’ Championship rivals Southampton, who went for Will Still in the end.

Danny Rohl now the favourite to become Leicester City manager

According to EFL Analysis’ Chief Football Correspondent Graeme Bailey, Rohl is the man most likely to be in the Leicester dugout next season, and would be interested, but the allure of returning to Germany could play a factor too.

He said: “I don’t think Leicester are all in on anyone at the moment. I think they’re in a good position, they’re considering their options and van Nistelrooy hasn’t gone yet.

“I think Danny Rohl really wants it, especially having missed out on the Southampton job, and he’s certainly on the short list, but I don’t think Leicester necessarily are leaning on him just yet.

“If and when Leicester do make their decision, and with options dwindling,” Bailey added: “Danny Rohl is still very much the leading contender for Leicester.”

Leicester have a backup plan if Danny Rohl doesn’t join

There’s no guarantee that Rohl does end up at the King Power Stadium and with the Foxes facing a points deduction, the idea of jumping ship from Wednesday to another club facing problems off the pitch may not appeal.

As Bailey mentioned, Leicester aren’t “all in on anyone” and one name who could be approached is Sean Dyche.

Bailey stated that Dyche “can’t be ruled out”, but could be an option if plans to advance on Rohl don’t accelerate.
