England international Morgan Rogers reacted after Aston Villa shared a significant update on the status of teammate Tyrone Mings.

The 22-year-old has now firmly put asserted himself as one of the Premier League’s best attacking midfielders after his first full season in the Midlands.

Despite spending much of the campaign out of position as a right winger to accommodate for Marco Asensio, the England international scored 14 and assisted 13 in all competitions.

But with those impressive performances has come some unwanted attention from a Villa perspective.

Paul Robinson revealed exclusively to Football Insider in April that Liverpool could pull off the “deal of the summer” by signing Rogers.

And whilst that deal seems less likely, due to the Reds’ prospective signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, Man City could make a move for their former youth-teamer Rogers.

The England international was entering the final 12 months of his contract with the Midlands side, and his new extension will now see his deal expire in 2027.

Following the announcement, Rogers posted a series of love-heart emojis on his Instagram story, showing support for the defender.

Aston Villa must keep hold of Morgan Rogers after Champions League heartbreak

Football Insider Verdict

On the final day of the season, thanks to Newcastle losing 1-0 to Everton, a point would have been sufficient for Villa to qualify for the Champions League.

But thanks to some questionable decision-making from referee Thomas Bramall, including his decision to disallow Rogers’ goal, Emery’s side lost 2-0.

With that loss comes the harsh reality of no Champions League money, and thus the club will be forced to reconsider their summer business.

Villa are teetering on the verge of failing to comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR), and may have to sell a first-team star to avoid a sanction.

Even if a sale must be made, the Villains should do all they can to avoid it being Rogers.

The young England international is already a star, and without him, Villa will likely slip further and further behind their rivals.
