Marcus Rashford has already given Aston Villa an “incredible” endorsement, as the Villans are linked with transfer interest in his Manchester United teammate Jadon Sancho.

Rashford described Villa as “a really special club” at the end of his loan at Villa Park from Old Trafford, having revived his career under Unai Emery.

He helped Villa reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League and semi-finals of the FA Cup, scored four goals and also registered six assists.

And while it looks like he will not be returning to Villa permanently, despite them negotiating a £40m purchase option with the Red Devils as part of his loan agreement, his praise of the club could work in its favour if they do pursue a deal for Sancho this summer.

“Just a message of thanks to everyone here at Villa for what has ( injury aside) been an incredible few months for me,” Rashford said in his parting message to Villa.

“It is a really special club and I appreciated the way Villa fans embraced me with open arms from 1st minute on the pitch.

“Manager, team, and coaching staff have all been brilliant.

“I know it is a huge disappointment not to have made the Champions League place which everyone worked so hard all season for but I know this club and team will come back stronger.”

Villa have been linked with Sancho following his exit from Chelsea.

Chelsea chose not to make Sancho’s loan from Old Trafford permanent and will pay a £5m penalty to opt out of their obligation to buy the 25-year-old.
