Chelsea, AC Milan to hold further talks over potential Mike Maignan deal — reports

Chelsea and AC Milan remain far apart on a valuation for Mike Maignan, with the Serie A side asking for €25-30m, and the Blues willing to go only as high as €10m. As Gazzetta dello Sport note, Chelsea believe that this is a fair number for a soon-to-be 30-year-old goalkeeper on the last year of his contract, and are unwilling to budge from that.

Fortunately, there may yet be a resolution in sight to break the deadlock, with Daniele Longo reporting that Chelsea and Milan are expected to try to find a middle ground before the end of the week.

In the meantime, new Milan manager, Massimiliano Allegri is doing his best to convince Maignan to stay at the San Siro. However, L’Equipe (via GFFN) note that Maignan wants to sign for Chelsea, having turned down multiple renewal offers, and wants to play in the Champions League. The Rossoneri have already started looking at replacements in the form of Mile Svilar and Marco Carnesecchi.

While Maignan would be a short(er)-term solution, the long-term planning at the position likely revolves around the vastly talented Mike Penders. However, just a loan is on the cards for Penders next season, and his destination may be Strasbourg, where he would replace Đorđe Petrović.

Penders could be joined there by Kendry Paez and Mathis Amougou, as per Ben Jacobs, though first they should all be part of our squad for the Club World Cup, which is coming up shortly.

Chelsea are considering loaning Mike Penders out to Strasbourg next season. Strasbourg are also actively working to find a smooth solution for #2 GK Alaa Bellaarouch on the market. #RCSA #CFC pic.twitter.com/kKAiHHnYcl
