Ornstein Confirms £46.3M "Agreement" As Man City See Off Premier League Rivals To Secure Transfer Target

Manchester City have “reached an agreement” to sign Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan for an initial €55m (£46.3m), according to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein.

Discussions over the transfer have been ongoing for several weeks, but a breakthrough has been found, and the Netherlands international is now expected to complete his move to the Etihad.

Reijnders is set to put pen to paper on a five-year contract, which will keep him with the Cityzens up until the summer of 2030.

The fee, including add-ons, could rise to €70m (£59m) – that figure would make the 26-year-old the most expensive sale in Milan’s history.

Reijnders was linked to other Premier League teams

Pep Guardiola’s side were not the only English club interested in the midfielder, with Chelsea having also been credited with an interest in the Italian press.

However, it is not thought that there was any serious pressure from other teams to complete the deal and City have managed to get the transfer over the line without there being any real complications.

After failing to qualify for Europe, Milan had a gaping hole in their budget that they needed to fill, so Reijnders’ departure was always likely despite the fact that he only signed a new contract with the Rossoneri a couple of months ago.

City have two other transfers in the pipeline

The Cityzens are hoping to secure the signatures of Lyon’s Rayan Cherki and Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri before the Club World Cup.

It is believed that the club have agreed personal terms with Cherki but they have yet to find any common ground on the transfer fee. Lyon are hoping to get in excess of €30m for a player who is closing in on the final year of his contract.

Ait-Nouri, meanwhile, is reportedly valued at around £50m by Wolves, with talks between the clubs said to be continuing.
