Aston Villa are looking at Real Betis’ Jesús Rodríguez to improve their attack next season.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, and their title says Aston Villa director Monchi ‘considers joining an auction’ for the winger. Liverpool sent a scout to watch the youngster in February and Chelsea were credited with interest in April.
He made his first team debut in October and has managed three goals and two assists from 32 games in the recently concluded season.
The 19-year-old is attracting interest from RB Leipzig, and Aston Villa have joined them in the transfer race.
Estadio state Unai Emery and Monchi are both keen on the Spain U21 international and therefore, the Villans are monitoring his situation closely.
Emery is looking for a new left winger in the market and one of the most liked players is Rodríguez.
The report points out claims made elsewhere that the Bundesliga club are willing to offer up to €20m for the Real Betis player. He has a contract until 2029, which includes a €35m release clause.
Rodríguez’s interested parties have contacted his representatives or informed Real Betis via intermediaries of their plans for him. Manuel Pellegrini’s side haven’t received any formal offers so far.
The report states the Spanish club aren’t ruling out a sale and seem to be open to a deal similar to Assane Diao’s sale to Como for €11.5m plus 20% of a future transfer.
Estadio end their report by stating: ‘Monchi and Emery’s Aston Villa are keen on Jesús Rodríguez and are keeping a close eye on any developments so as not to miss out on a market opportunity that Real Betis has been preparing for some time.’
