Bayern Munich are understood to be keeping an eye on a number of targets for the left wing role.
This is partly in anticipation of Leroy Sane departing the club on a free this summer.
The German international’s agent, Pini Zahavi, is currently in talks with Arsenal and Tottenham. It is believed that the Gunners’ proposal is stronger at this point in time.
As such, options like Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo could come to the fore.

Liverpool’s official position is that they’re unwilling to entertain offers for the Dutch international.
However, sources at Empire of the Kop now claim that the Merseysiders could be nudged into reconsidering their position.
It would require a fee in the region of €70m-80m (£58.9m-67.3m) – and this is also dependent on Arne Slot being of the mind for an offensive reshuffle.
Does a Gakpo sale make sense?
From a Liverpool point of view, it doesn’t really make a great deal of sense to weaken a position that’s arguably the most complete in the squad.
Between Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo, the Reds have the perfect amount of depth for the position with two top competitors battling it out for supremacy.
More to the point, the arrival of Slot has given the Dutch international renewed purpose at Anfield.
He’s playing in his preferred left wing position and has put improved numbers on the board (two more goal contributions in 2024/25) despite picking up fewer minutes.
Could Gakpo be tempted by Bayern transfer?
Cody Gakpo is under consideration at Bayern, and you could forgive the player for having his head at least slightly turned.
Should Leroy Sane depart the club, he would have an opportunity to hold down a starting slot in Munich. Likely, also, without the prospect of coming up against top-quality competition, as is the case with Luis Diaz on Merseyside.
But, ultimately, the 26-year-old is currently playing under a coach he clicks with and a team that’s just won the Premier League title.
There’s an objective debate to be had, too, about whether a move to Bayern gets him any closer to the Champions League.
From our point of view here at Bayern Insider, this is a firm “maybe”.
