Liverpool have rejected Barcelona's approach to sign Luis Diaz.
Diaz, 28, joined the Reds in 2022 from Porto and his deal runs until next summer, but, as things stand according to The Athletic, there is little expectation of a new deal.
It could lead to similar situation to Trent Alexander-Arnold, who let his contract run down this campaign so he could walk away to Real Madrid on a free transfer - but Los Blancos coughed up £10million to secure his services early.
Diaz had been linked to Barcelona this summer, but Arne Slot doesn't want to lose a player he has plans for during the 2025/26 season. Diaz was also tracked by Saudi Pro League clubs last summer.
The report continues that at Diaz's age, Liverpool's current preference would be to maximise his performance value unless the Reds receive bids that enable them to land a replacement of a similar quality.
Deco, who works as Barcelona's sporting director, was asked about a possible move for Diaz by BBC Sport: "We have been focusing on renewing contracts, after that, we'll discuss players to come.
"Of course, these two players, like you mentioned, they are good but have contracts in their clubs, so we won't speak because it's not fair.
"But when you decide to go to the market, for sure, we find some names. In my opinion, we don't need to bring many players.
"When I speak with the agents of the players, everyone wants to come or stay. So this is important. The image of the club is still good.
"We are proud because Barcelona is still such a big club, and the way we are playing football makes players want to come."
Barcelona have also been linked with Marcus Rashford, who looks set for the exit door at Old Trafford after his loan spell at Aston Villa during the second half of the season.
