Manchester United are moving quickly in the summer transfer window but the priority is still to sign a striker.
Goals were a huge issue for Manchester United and Ruben Amorim last season, especially in the Europa League final where the Red Devils failed to score against Tottenham in Bilbao.
As a result, overhauling United’s attacking department was at the top of Ineos’ to-do list and the £62.5m arrival of Matheus Cunha is a strong start.
Since then, Ineos have launched a £45m bid for Bryan Mbeumo, but an out-and-out No.9 is still needed and Viktor Gyokeres has been a United target ever since the arrival of Amorim as head coach in November.

Viktor Gyokeres is ‘keen’ to join Ruben Amorim at Man United
During their time together at Sporting Lisbon, Gyokeres scored 66 goals in 68 games under Amorim’s management.
Gyokeres is a huge admirer of Amorim and he cited the Portuguese coach as one of the main reasons he made the move to Sporting back in 2023.
Now, Gyokeres is expected to leave Sporting and Amorim will be keen to reunite with him at Old Trafford. According to journalist Ben Jacobs, the feeling is mutual.
Jacobs told The United Stand: “My understanding is that Viktor Gyokeres would be very keen on a move to Man United if they could pull that off, financially speaking.”

Gyokeres is valued at around 70m Euros (£59m) this summer, which would take a big bite out of United’s summer budget after the Cunha deal and Mbeumo bid.
Earlier this season, Amorim sent a warning to Gyokeres, informing him and any other transfer targets that United do not want players who are only focused on playing in Europe.
United’s defeat in the Europa League final confirmed that the Red Devils will have no European football next season, but it seems that hasn’t affected Gyokeres’ transfer plans.
Jacobs explains that Gyokeres is eager to join Manchester United even though they failed to reach the Champions League.
However, the £59m fee being demanded by Sporting will rely on United offloading players. Ineos want to raise £100m in player sales this summer but it has so far proven difficult.
Jadon Sancho’s move to Chelsea collapsed and Aston Villa opted out of buying Marcus Rashford. Antony and Alejandro Garnacho are two other forwards who are expected to head for the exit.
