Sir Jim Ratcliffe has awarded Jason Wilcox with a major promotion, rewarding the value he brings to the club.
Wilcox arrived at Old Trafford last year from Southampton taking on the role of technical director.
The 53-year-old joined United having already been the director of football for The Saints, and held senior roles in the Manchester City Academy, bringing a wealth of experience to his new role.
However, when Dan Ashworth was sacked only five months into his role as sporting director at Old Trafford, Wilcox stepped up, assuming some of his responsibilities in the interim of either a new appointment or a reshuffle.
Now, Ratcliffe has made his next major change, restructuring the United hierarchy, seeing INEOS man Sir Dave Brailsford take a step back from the club.

Jason Wilcox takes more senior role in new Manchester United structure
It’s understood that as part of his role at Old Trafford, Sir Dave Brailsford was in charge of remodelling the hierarchy structure for a best fit for the club, which The Athletic has reported has now been achieved.
This role saw the INEOS man be involved with the decisions regarding Erik ten Hag and appointing Ruben Amorim in his place, as well as appointing Omar Berrada.
Now with Brailsford stepping back from the club, he will be returning to the director of sport role for INEOS, however still retaining his position on the United board to offer advise around strategic performance matters.
However, part of this restructure has seen Wilcox earn a major promotion to the director of football role, acknowledging the part he’s already played at the club.
His promotion will see him officially take on the responsibilities of the sporting director role he’s been fulfilling, seemingly confirming that Ashworth’s vacated role has been deleted, making further savings for the club.
