Newly promoted Championship side Wrexham are reportedly set to target an ambitious move for a first team Manchester United star.
Phil Parkinson’s side achieved the remarkable feat of securing a third promotion in a row to take them from the National League to the Championship, with ambitions to continue their upwards trajectory to reach the promised land of the Premier League.
With their “Hollywood” pull and willingness invest in their squad to add top talent they have been linked to a host of stars from England’s top two divisions.
Now, according to reports that could be set to continue as they plot a stunning transfer, after links to Jamie Vardy (although ruled out by Humphrey Ker), Danny Ings and Aaron Cresswell continue.
Wrexham Plot Christian Eriksen Swoop
Wrexham had already been linked to experienced defender Jonny Evans, who is set to leave Manchester United this summer, before it was confirmed that he would be retiring from football. But now a second Manchester United free agent has been linked with Christian Eriksen now a prime target.
The Wrexham Insider, quoted Fearless In Devotion Podcast on the possibility of a move:
“Apparently, yeah, apparently, Parky is interested in signing Christian Eriksen.”
“Now again, sort of the pre-fit for what we have is of a certain age of a certain experience. And he is of a certain age, and he comes with bags of experience.
“So, we’re in a weird position where it’s almost impossible to chuck any of these ideas out and dismiss them as complete lunacy because it’s Wrexham, isn’t it? Anything is possible. I don’t see it because I think there’s only so many players you can afford where the wages are going to be obscene.”
Is the Move from Manchester United to Wrexham Realistic?
Before Wrexham fans get excited and start ordering shirts with Eriksen’s name on the back this move appears to be highly unlikely. Not only was the midfielder understood to be a top earner at Old Trafford, with estimates placing his weekly salary in the 150k region, he is also looking to move away from England after his second spell in English football (Man Utd and Spurs).
Speaking to TV 2 Sport Eriksen spoke on his future:
“Right now there is nothing. There is interest all around, but there is nothing that I am close to signing. My focus will be to play international matches and then have a good summer holiday. Then we will see how long the holiday will be.
“I would rather get away from the Premier League. I feel I have had my turn in the Premier League, so I am looking outside the English borders.
“It’s been a great place for me and my family, and we’ve been there for many years. When I moved from Tottenham to Inter, it wasn’t the plan for me to go back to England. I’ve been there for three and a half years again since then, so you can never say never, but the priority is for me to leave.”
So whilst there may be interest from the Welsh side, it is looking increasingly unlikely that a move could actually happen. However, if they did somehow manage to convince the 33-year-old to drop down to the Championship it can only be considered a stunning move, with 142 caps and 44 goals for Denmark, Serie A and Eredivisie winners medals as well as several cup winner medals it would be a real show of intent.
