Chelsea looking at'newer name'who called Cole Palmer one of the world's best players last season - journalist

Anyone that signs with Chelsea will be walking into an exciting young dressing room that includes huge talents such as Cole Palmer.

The Blues are linked with so many different profiles in a busy summer transfer window, and one appeal of coming to Stamford Bridge must be joining a talented squad that are on an upwards trajectory.

Without a doubt, Cole Palmer is the jewel in the crown at Chelsea. The 23-year-old attacking playmaker has delivered an outstanding first two seasons with the club, and we’re confident that the best is still yet to come.

Liam Delap, who was officially announced as a Chelsea signing on Wednesday, will be reuniting with Palmer after the pair played together in Manchester City’s academy. In fact, Delap and Palmer have a brilliant record from their time sharing the pitch.

Morgan Gibbs-White mentioned as new target for Chelsea

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White is a “newer name” he’s hearing with regard to potential Chelsea targets.

He does stress that the Blues’ interest in the 25-year-old attacking midfielder is only “internal appreciation” at this very early stage.

Jacobs said via Playback (4 June) “I would also keep an eye on Morgan Gibbs-White, another newer name that I’m hearing. No club-to-club contact, nothing to get overly excited about at the moment… We know that Chelsea appreciates him, but it is just internal appreciation at this point. It’s gone no further than that. I don’t know if it will go any further than that.”

Aston Villa playmaker Morgan Rogers is on Chelsea’s shortlist as a potential summer target, and Gibbs-White definitely feels like a very similar profile.

What Morgan Gibbs-White said about Cole Palmer last season

Even though the Gibbs-White links to Chelsea are extremely tentative, it’s interesting to note he’s a huge admirer of Palmer.

Back in September 2024, Forest and England star Gibbs-White praised Palmer as one of the world’s best players. When asked about Palmer, Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden last season, Gibbs-White said: “They’re probably three of the best players in the world right now. To be behind them is obviously a good and a bad thing.”

Palmer and Gibbs-White are two similar individuals that prefer to play centrally in a No.10 position, where they can control and impact matches. However, both have the versatility to move around and play different roles if needed.

They are both in Thomas Tuchel’s current England squad for upcoming matches in June, so it will be interesting to see if they are on the pitch at the same time.
