Browns Sign QB Dillon Gabriel to 4-Year Rookie Contract

The Cleveland Browns, now officially on paper, have a crowded quarterback room.

Dillon Gabriel, the former Oregon quarterback and Cleveland's fourth-round pick in this year's NFL Draft, has signed his four-year rookie contract worth a reported $6.2 million with a signing bonus of $1.16 million.

Gabriel now becomes the Browns' fifth quarterback under contract, joining Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and Shedeur Sanders.

The Browns are desperately in search of an answer at the starting QB position - as they typically are.

The franchise's most expensive contract and would-be starter in Watson is currently rehabbing another aggravated Achilles injury and may miss at least the first half of the season, if not much longer.

The southpaw Gabriel continues to get a good amount of reps throughout OTAs, but he still faces a lot of competition to earn a starting job.

With his long-term contract official, we assume Cleveland will elect to get rid of one of the others before Week 1 ... but that decision could play out all summer.

Sanders, a fellow rookie QB taken in the seventh round, also signed a four-year contract. Flacco, 40, signed a cheap one-year veteran deal and Pickett, who many predict to be the most expendable, is also entering a contract year after his club option was not picked up following his trade from the Philadelphia Eagles.

Gabriel enters the NFL with as much college football experience as you'll find. He had stops at UCF and Oklahoma before landing with Oregon last season. He finished his college career with 18,722 passing yards and an impressive 46-17 record in 63 starts.

The lefty gunslinger now continues his offseason program on his first NFL contract with high hopes of making an impact at some point for the Browns this season.
