Newcastle United 'make contact' with Chelsea over availability of £42m winger this summer

· 5 June 2025, 12:00

**Having missed out already on 'priority target' Bryan Mbeumo thanks to a combination of PSR, greed and stupidity, Newcastle United find themselves moving down their list of potential right-wing targets.**

Thankfully, the Magpies have kept their options open this year rather than putting all of their eggs in one transfer basket like we did last summer.

Newcastle have been linked to several other wingers such as Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth, PSV's Johan Bakayoko, Nottingham Forest's Anthony Elanga and Chelsea's Noni Madueke, to name a few.

Things have significantly quietened on the Semenyo and Bakayoko fronts, but [Caught Offside](https://www.caughtoffside.com/2025/06/05/noni-madueke-newcastle-chelsea-transfer/) are today claiming that Newcastle have made an enquiry about Madueke.

Newcastle make their move for Noni Madueke

Newcastle have made contact with Chelsea over Noni Madueke

----------------------------------------------------------

Newcastle were keen on the England international last summer before he really showed what he could do in the Premier League, but now, having broken into the England team and put in some top performances for Chelsea, things have become more difficult.

Caught Offside believes Chelsea now want to keep hold of the player they signed for £29 million in 2023, but also suggests they could be tempted by offers of around £42 million.

However, Newcastle are believed to value Madueke at closer to £35 million.

Can we just bid for someone, please?

------------------------------------

To be honest, we'd be happy to pay £42 million for Noni Madueke. We know he's still a bit raw and inconsistent, but Eddie Howe is the man to drag him up to where we believe he can be.

We suspect, however, simply based on last year's Hail Mary attempt on deadline day, that we'll move on with a bid for Anthony Elanga first, although we expect him to cost significantly more than £42 million.

At this point, though, we'd be happy with making a bid for anyone. We know that our board are transfer lurkers and like to do their business in the shadows, but it's soul-destroying as fans seeing players we've become invested in going elsewhere, without really knowing whether there was even a genuine interest from the club.
