‘Preparing to sign” | More good news as Hammer wanted overseas

It seems one of the least successful West Ham transfer sagas of recent years – and that’s a long list- could well be about to take a turn for the better as news is reported today of an attempt to be made this summer to cement a deal between West Ham and Genoa.

Seemingly perennial injury absentee **Maxi Cornet** has finally found his ‘forever’ home, with Patrick Vieira’s seria A side where he found himself on loan in January. This was following a failed loan spell at bottom club Southampton – who did not use Cornet at all.

Despite the former Burnley flyer’s poor injury record with further muscle issues at Genoa, it is reported that :_“Genoa are now preparing to sign the West Ham loanee once again, with his current loan deal set to expire soon.” [(Sportwitness.co.uk)](https://sportwitness.co.uk/clubs-objective-for-west-ham-player-now-very-clear-attempt-to-be-made-in-the-summer/)_

The report confirms:

_“Their intention is to negotiate a deal with West Ham in the summer transfer window and while there is no mention of whether it would be a permanent deal or another loan, the Italian club’s intention to keep him is now clear.”_

Which will be a relief to just about everyone at West Ham who had probably given up on Cornet ever finding a club: His £55k a week five year deal still has two seasons to run and very few West Ham players have come close to Cornet’s awful injury record.

If West Ham can negotiate a loan extension with his final two more years at Genoa – or even better a sale with a modest fee – there will be huge sighs of relief all around. A sale would be far better – if memory serves me right the Irons were still making a big contribution to subsidise his weekly wages .

Cornet will have to take a wage deduction to make the move permanent but then – all good things must come to an end. Even Maxi Cornet’s West Ham contract earning him _two-point-eight-million-pounds a year_ deal for sitting on the bench.
