Danny Murphy reckons Chelsea have missed out on a ‘really good value’ deal to sign Jadon Sancho, as the winger returns to Manchester United after his loan spell.
The 25-year-old spent the season on loan with the Blues, making 41 appearances across all competitions and scoring five goals.
Chelsea had the opportunity to make the move permanent for £25m but chose not to and had to pay Manchester United £5m to send the winger back to Old Trafford.
Sancho’s future is now uncertain, with a return to the Red Devils first team under Ruben Amorim seemingly unlikely.
Murphy is surprised Chelsea did not want to keep hold of the England international, having been reasonably impressed by his performances for the Blues.

The former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder also feels that a £25m deal for a player who cost Manchester United £73m represents good value for money.
‘I’d like to think people evolve, young players especially, you have to give them time to make mistakes,’ Murphy said on talkSPORT. ‘But I actually think he’s done alright for Chelsea this season when I’ve seen him.

‘His technical ability is brilliant. Very rarely gives the ball away, now end product is a question mark. He’s played in a lot of big games, and that’s because he’s reliable with the ball and he knows his job.
‘He’s a bright footballer. He turned up at Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in the world, when he was 20 and because they paid a huge amount for him which was inflated, he was expected to hit [the ground running].
‘I think Jadon Sancho for £25million is really good value.
‘Sancho wrote on social media of his time in west London: ‘Grateful for the experience.
‘Big love to everyone at Chelsea who made me feel at home – teammates, staff and the fans. Wishing the club all the best moving forward.
‘Truly grateful, Thank you Blues.’

A return to former club Borussia Dortmund has been touted as an option for Sancho this summer, as has a move to the Saudi Pro League.
Closer to home, Aston Villa, Newcastle and West Ham have all been linked with a move for him.
A difficulty for interested parties is the huge salary he earns at Manchester United, which is reportedly £300,000-a-week.
His contract with the Red Devils only runs for one more year, so they will be keen to recoup some of the money they spent on him this summer if they can.
