Claim made for Manchester United influencing Wolves’ Fabio Silva transfer approach - expert

Fabio Silva’s future is set to be a much-discussed topic over the summer transfer window at Wolves.

It will be fascinating to see if Wolves’ restructuring of their hierarchy will impact the future of Silva at Molineux.

The striker is most likely to leave the West Midlands this summer, however, Silva has hinted at possibly staying at Wolves.

After an emphatic loan spell over the 2024/25 campaign at Las Palmas, Silva is generating transfer attention, with plenty of suitors out there for the 22-year-old.

Wolves could use Manchester United transfer as Fabio Silva inspiration

The majority of speculation regarding the Portugal U21 international comes from abroad, however, Burnley have shown an interest in Silva.

It’s unlikely that Silva will remain in England, but that might not stop Wolves taking inspiration from a Premier League rival regarding what to do with Nuno Espirito Santo’s 2020 signing.

When speaking about the possibility of Wolves inserting a sell-on fee greater than 20% at the point of selling Silva, transfer expert Graeme Bailey likened the situation to one that unfolded at Manchester United.

Speaking to Molineux News, TBR’s Bailey made a point for Wolves seeking inspiration from Man United’s sale of disgraced forward Mason Greenwood.

“Possibly [Wolves could agree a high sell-on fee], but with that, you reduce the overall fee,” Bailey explained.

“A good example is Mason Greenwood at Marseille, where United let him go for £26m, which is well below his market value, but then you’ve got a huge sell-on.

“Wolves could allow Silva to go for a lesser fee than what they can get, that’s part of the conversation gamble in the transfer world.”

United sold Greenwood for a fee below his market value but included a massive 50% sell-on clause, which is bound to benefit those at Old Trafford in the future.

In entirely contrasting circumstances, Wolves could take inspiration from United and be tempted to lower Silva’s asking price in order to negotiate a higher sell-on fee, given what the 22-year-old could go on to do away from Molineux.

Silva’s future is fascinating

Though when speaking with optimism over Silva’s future, a higher sell-on fee seems viable, Bailey admitted that he doesn’t believe Wolves will take the ‘gamble’.

“If they want to go above that 20%, they have to let him go for a lot less money.

“I imagine they’ll take the money with a bit of sell on, they’ve been there with Fabio, and he’s built his value up, I don’t think they’ll take a huge gamble personally.”

After a turbulent five years at Wolves, Silva’s time at Molineux will surely come to an end, in what could represent the start of his career.

The 22-year-old has huge potential, as seen during his highs on loan at Las Palmas, which could lead to the Old Gold financially benefiting from their failed transfer in years to come.
