2 of Brock Purdy’s former classmates will face off in NBA Finals

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has been the big talk of the offseason.

The former "Mr. Irrelevant" of the 2022 NFL Draft finally got his big payday, a five-year, $265 million extension to keep him with the Niners at least through 2030 while making him one of the league's top-paid players.

However, it might be some of Purdy's former classmates who may be the big talk of the summer.

Two of his former collegiate classmates will meet in the NBA Finals when the Indiana Pacers take on the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Guard Tyrese Haliburton of the Pacers played college basketball at Iowa State University while Purdy was on the football team there. He and Purdy both came to Iowa State in 2018.

Haliburton would end up being a first-round (12th overall) pick of the Sacramento Kings in the 2020 NBA Draft, but after less than two seasons in Sacramento, he was traded to Indiana.

There, he truly flourished, earning two All-Star selections. Now, Haliburton will now be playing in his first NBA Finals.

Starring for the Thunder is actually one of Purdy's high school classmates. Purdy and Thunder forward Jalen Williams attended Perry High School in Gilbert, Arizona, around the same time.

Williams actually got to Santa Clara before Purdy, opting to play college basketball at Santa Clara University, just miles away from Levi's Stadium.

Williams was a first-round selection by the Thunder in the 2022 NBA draft (12th overall). For the 2024-25 season, he earned his first All-Star selection. He also earned an All-NBA Third Team and an All-Defensive Second Team selection for the season, both firsts for him as well. He will also be competing in his first NBA Finals.

It will be a very competitive NBA Finals with two deserving teams making it there.

Who will Purdy ultimately root for though? His high school classmate or his college classmate?

Keep an eye out on his social media accounts to find out.
