West Ham United have reportedly opened talks to sign Club Brugge’s midfield sensation Raphael Onyedika in the summer transfer window.
According to a report from Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, West Ham United are looking to add more quality to their midfield this summer, and they have their eyes set on Raphael Onyedika. The Hammers consider the Nigerian international an ideal replacement for Tomas Soucek, who could be on the move in the coming weeks.
Onyedika has only gone from strength to strength since joining Club Brugge from FC Midtjylland in the summer of 2022. The African midfielder has established himself as a key figure in the team, and his performances have attracted a lot of interest from across Europe.
The 24-year-old defensive midfielder was involved in a total of 52 matches in the recently concluded season, and he even contributed towards four goals. His performances have put him on the wishlist of some of the top clubs from across Europe.
West Ham United are one of the clubs that are interested in the Nigerian international. The Hammers are on the lookout for a new defensive midfield as they want to replace Tomas Soucek this summer. The Czech midfielder is linked with a move to Leeds United, who have secured a return to the top flight.
West Ham in talks to sign Onyedika
The East London club would be willing to let Soucek leave for around £20 million, and they have already identified Raphael Onyedika as a direct replacement. West Ham consider the Nigerian internatioanl a great fit for Graham Potter’s system, and they have already been in touch with the Belgian club regarding a potential transfer.
The 24-year-old is interested in moving to London at this stage of his career and with just two years left on his deal, Club Brugge could certainly look to cash in on him. A failure to sell him now could see his value drop in 12 months when he will only have a year left on his deal.
The Hammers have already initiated talks with Club Brugge and they do have an advantage as the player seems keen on moving to London. But they could face competition from AC Milan, who view him as a potential replacement for Tijjani Reijnders, who will soon secure a move to Manchester City this summer.
