Manchester United are open to offers for their high-earning veteran star Casemiro in the summer transfer window, according to reports.

The 33-year-old Brazilian midfielder pockets more money per week,£350,000, than any other player in United’s squad under Ruben Amorim.

The Red Devils are thought to have a tiny transfer budget for the current summer window and the sale of Casemiro could help them free up funds.

Casemiro is currently under contract with United until the summer of 2026, with the option to extend his deal for another year.

But The Telegraph report that Casemiro could be heading for an exit if another club makes a bid for him before the start of the 2025-26 season.

Last year, football pundit Jamie Carragher said that Casemiro was no longer good enough for United and that he should consider a move to the Saudi Pro League or Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States.

‘He should be thinking, “I need to go to the MLS or Saudi” – I’m deadly serious,’ Carragher said. ‘He’s aging, the people around him they need to tell him this has to stop.

‘He’s been an absolute great. I am nowhere near on a level of what that man has achieved. Champions Leagues, playing for Brazil, playing for Real Madrid.

‘But I always remember something when I retired myself, there was a saying I always remember as a footballer, “leave the football before the football leaves you”.’

Casemiro hailed for ‘sensational’ performance

Last month, fellow football pundit Rio Ferdinand singled out Casemiro for praise after United’s 3-0 Europa League semi-final second leg win over Athletic Bilbao.

‘I don’t think Casemiro has put a foot wrong,’ Ferdinand said about the Brazil international. ‘He’s been sensational tonight.

‘He has been so disciplined. People have been talking about getting rid of him, his legs have gone etcetera.

‘But I tell you what, he’s come to the fore when they have needed him.’

Casemiro sends clear message to Man Utd about his future

Earlier this year, Casemiro said he was enjoying life at United and wanted to stay at the club until the end of his contract in 2026.

‘I have to keep doing what I’m doing, with a lot of respect and education,’ he told AS. ‘Of course I’d like to play more. I don’t know any player who doesn’t want to play and help.

‘Also, I’d like to help the club at this time. I approach things with respect for my teammates and the technical committee. And above all, I respect United, a club to which I’m very grateful.

‘I have a year-and-a-half left on my contract and I’d like to fulfil it here in Manchester. I’m comfortable here and so is my family. They’ve adapted, we speak English.

‘I’m very grateful to the Old Trafford fans and to the club. I’m happy at club level.’
