Arsenal’s Albert Sambi Lokonga wants to extend his stay at Sevilla, after spending this season on loan with them.
On Wednesday, the midfielder told AS that he wants to continue at the La Liga club, but the move depends on the Gunners.
Belgium’s La Dernière Heure had a chat with the Arsenal player and asked him about the possibility of extending his stay at Sevilla.
The Spanish club have secured a €12m purchase option, but the midfielder insists they aren’t going to exercise it. If Sevilla are keen, a new agreement has to be found with the north London club.
When asked if Sevilla can afford to pay €12m, he said: “No, €12m isn’t possible. It’s also up to them to negotiate with Arsenal and show they want me.
“But I haven’t spoken with Sevilla yet because there are still many questions at several levels within the club. It’s not ideal on paper, but I know Sevilla wants to move forward. I like the fact that we have to build something.”
The 25-year-old has a year left on his contract at the Emirates and was asked whether staying at Arsenal next season is a possibility.
Responding to that, Albert Sambi Lokonga explained: “It’ll be difficult, I think. I think I’m ready for something new.”
The Belgium international left Anderlecht for Arsenal in 2021 and has been out on loan at Crystal Palace, Luton Town and Sevilla since January 2023. He’s waiting for an interesting opportunity that can also bring stability.
“For now, I have no idea [where my future will be]. I’m not closing any doors while waiting for something interesting to come up,” he added.
“I enjoyed moving around like this, especially since I didn’t have to move during my first two loan spells because I was already living in London. But I want to find a club where I can stay for two or three years. The fact that I have one year left on my contract makes it easier to move.”
What seems certain is that Albert Sambi Lokonga has no future at Arsenal and could leave them permanently this summer.
