Plan to use emotional ties to lure Aston Villa player – Relationship with fans key, but money may kill it

Aston Villa’s Enzo Barrenechea impressed during his season-long loan spell at Valencia.

The 24-year-old’s performances for the La Liga club didn’t go unnoticed as Aston Villa director Monchi said on Wednesday that several clubs want him.

Thursday’s edition of Superdeporte has a report on the Aston Villa player and the title says it’s ‘even more difficult’ to bring him back.

After Carlos Corberán arrived in December, Barrenechea’s performances improved a lot and he established himself as a regular. He was also appreciated by a large section of Los Ches supporters.

The Argentine’s rapport with the Valencia fans fuelled ‘some hope’ of bringing him back on loan without a purchase option for next season. The report states Valencia are clinging on to the emotional ties between the supporters and Barrenechea to lure him back to Mestalla.

This can be a key factor if the Aston Villa owned player were to return to Valencia next season.

Unai Emery will decide on whether to include him in his plans or send him elsewhere next season. The Aston Villa manager had a spell at Valencia in the past and Superdeporte say this is ‘another sentimental connection’.

Valencia are hoping for emotional ties to work in their favour while waiting for Emery’s decision. If the manager decides to leave him out of his plans, the Spanish club then have to work out the finances of the operation.

However, in cold harsh reality, the economic aspect may stop Valencia from going ahead with signing Barrenechea this summer.
