Baker Mayfield Will Have More Say In Offense
June 5th, 2025
A veteran quarterback coming off back-to-back stud seasons should have a lot of say in the offense.
That’s the dynamic in the current offense at One Buc Palace. Baker Mayfield is “the man,” and more of the man that he was last season, per his comments to Prickly Pete Prisco of CBS on Tuesday.
Prisco shared those this morning in a Mayfield feature for CBSSports.com.
Mayfield said he relishes returning to the same offensive system, this time being led by rookie playcaller Josh Grizzard.
“…We have everybody back and added some pieces in the skill group. That makes it easier. I took a lot more responsibility last year, and I am taking even more ownership of it,” Mayfield said. “When it comes to those checks at the line of scrimmage, it makes it a lot easier with the guys being back. They know when we get this blitz, and I am going to check to this play, it’s second nature for them. When people don’t have to think about it, it’s a lot better.”
Joe trusts Mayfield with greater command over the offense, though that’s not always a great thing to have a QB as a highly dominant figure in what happens on Sundays. See the 2022 Buccaneers averaging 18 points per game.
