Jaylen Brown is likely to be the subject of countless trade calls this offseason, but there might be one suitor that attracts more attention.
The San Antonio Spurs, who hold the second overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, are viewed as a potential offseason trade partner for the Boston Celtics. Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix, however, went a step further and labeled San Antonio as the team to watch for Brown.
“The team I’d watch the closest with Jaylen Brown is probably the Spurs,” Mannix said while appearing on NBC Sports Boston on Wednesday.

Mannix expects the Spurs to make a run at Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, but that might require San Antonio to part ways with Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle. And if Milwaukee insists on Castle being included, it could lead to San Antonio switching gears and pursuing Brown, Mannix believes.
“I think if you’re Boston, you’re not going to ask for a Stephon Castle,” Mannix said. “You’re not going to get a Stephon Castle in a potential Jaylen Brown deal. You would get the No. 2 pick back in return. You would get the Devin Vassells, the Keldon Johnsons, future first-round capital.”

To no surprise, Mannix insisted the Celtics wouldn’t trade Brown to the Spurs without receiving the No. 2 pick in return. That selection could then be used on guard prospect Dylan Harper, who is widely viewed as the best player available after Cooper Flagg.
