Manchester City are currently preparing for the FIFA Club World Cup.
The 2024/25 campaign was a tough one for Premier League giants, as the Manchester club went the entire season without a trophy, but they could rectify that a bit by bringing home the FIFA Club World Cup this summer.
It remains to be seen how seriously Pep Guardiola will take the tournament; however, Man City have been taking advantage of the extra transfer period, as everything is in place to officially announce the signing of Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan, while the Manchester club continue to push for Rayan Cherki.
The English outfit hope to have both players as part of their squad before their Club World Cup campaign gets underway on June 18 against Wydad AC, but once the tournament is over, Fabrizio Romano has revealed what Man City plan to do.

Man City will not sign a goalkeeper before the Club World Cup
Guardiola recently revealed that he plans to keep Ederson for the new season; however, the Man City star is still keen on a move to Saudi Arabia.
Therefore, the future of the 31-year-old remains in doubt and Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the goalkeeper situation at the Etihad Stadium, with the transfer expert stating that a new number one will not arrive before the Club World Cup.

“Let me clarify, while we see the numbers that for Man City it is really important before bringing in a goalkeeper, it is to understand what happens with Ederson,” Romano told DAZN.
“It could be the end of an era, but to be the end of an era, they need a proposal, and at the moment, they have still not received a formal or official bid for Ederson. It’s just conversation. It’s just talks.”
“So, let’s follow that situation, because from what I’m hearing at the moment. Yes, some interest from Saudi already last summer, you remember, he could leave Man City, but then the deal didn’t happen.
“So, we will follow this goalkeeper situation at Manchester City, but I don’t think this is going to be one for the Club World Cup.”
Al-Ittihad are keen on Ederson this summer, but the Saudi Pro League club have yet to make a move. If they do, Man City already have two targets that they will move for.

Fabrizio Romano names the two goalkeepers on Man City’s list
Before clarifying the situation of Ederson at Man City, Romano told DAZN that the two goalkeepers the Premier League club will target if the Brazilian leaves are PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma and Porto’s Diogo Costa.
“On the short list they have at Manchester City is Gigi Donnarumma, who is out of contract in one year with Paris Saint-Germain,” the transfer expert revealed. “Donnarumma did fantastic in this Champions League, one of the faces of the Paris Saint-Germain squad winning the Champions League.
“And the other one is Diogo Costa at Porto, a goalkeeper really appreciated by Manchester City, two different goalkeepers in terms of style.
Player Games Goals conceded Clean Sheets Minutes
Ederson 37 48 12 3311
Gianluigi Donnarumma 40 39 12 3562
Diogo Costa 43 45 19 3900
Only time will tell if City make a formal move for either one, as Romano said, they have to wait to see what will happen with the future of Ederson.
Both options would be great additions to Guardiola’s squad, and with both having different styles, it may come down to who the legendary coach prefers.
