Viktor Gyokeres contacted by Ruben Amorim

Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United rebuild is beginning to take shape, with Matheus Cunha already through the door and a deal for Bryan Mbeumo in the works.

United’s opening bid for Mbeumo — £45 million plus £10m in add-ons — was swiftly rebuffed by Brentford, who value the forward closer to Cunha’s £62.5m price tag.

Talks remain ongoing, and a second offer is expected, with Amorim keen on adding pace, versatility, and goals to his front line ahead of a crucial pre-season.

Despite missing out on Liam Delap, who joined Chelsea for Champions League football, United remain active in the striker market — with Viktor Gyokeres emerging as a standout option.

Now, the Swedish striker is reportedly open to a move to Old Trafford even without the lure of Champions League football.

According to talkSPORT, United’s interest is being fuelled by Amorim himself, who has maintained contact with the 26-year-old since arriving in Manchester.

The Portuguese coach is a huge admirer of Viktor Gyokeres, who netted 54 times in 52 matches last season and fired Sporting to the Primeira Liga title.

While no formal negotiations have begun between United and Sporting, Amorim is said to be pushing for a reunion with the striker who scored 66 goals in 68 appearances under him in Lisbon.

Interest in the prolific frontman is heating up, with Arsenal, Chelsea, PSG and even Saudi sides circling.

However, Gyokeres is not keen to leave Europe, especially with the 2026 World Cup on the horizon.

Amorim previously refused to be drawn into speculation about a move for Gyokeres, joking in May that he’d get into trouble for speaking about it while the season was ongoing.

But with the summer window open and Gyokeres available at a reduced fee, a sensational reunion is firmly on the table.
