Luis Diaz has spoken about negotiations with other clubs this summer.
This comes after David Ornstein reported on Thursday that Barcelona had been in contact with Liverpool to enquire about the Colombian.
The Anfield club swiftly rejected the enquiry.
Diaz’s contract, signed in January 2022, expires in 2027, but the absence of extension talks has fueled uncertainty.
Liverpool’s sporting hierarchy, led by Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes, appears willing to risk losing Diaz on a free transfer in 2027 rather than accept subpar offers.
Paul Joyce has confirmed that now contract talks have been forthcoming yet.
Diaz is routinely linked with a move to Barcelona whenever the transfer window opens – but it seems that Barcelona may have been bolstered by their communication with the player.
Speaking in a Colombian press conference ahead of their clash against Peru, the Liverpool winger admitted that he was speaking to other clubs:
“I’m very happy at Liverpool, I’ve always said it. They’ve treated me well since the first day…. We’re talking with other clubs.”
“It’s the transfer window, it’s normal. We’re waiting to see what happens.”
“If Liverpool renews my contract, or if I have to stay the 2 years I have left, I’ll be happy. It’s up to them.”
Reports also suggest that Al-Nassr have become strong contenders, having secured approval from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund to make an €85 million offer.
For now, Diaz is focused on international duty with Colombia, and Liverpool’s hierarchy appears content to let the situation play out, with no rush to make a decision.
The club’s stance seems to be clear: unless an irresistible offer arrives, Diaz will remain a Liverpool player, with his future likely to remain a talking point as the window progresses.
