Marseille have been offered Crystal Palace star Jean-Philippe Mateta, but he doesn’t fit into the French side’s financial limitations.
That’s [according to L’Equipe](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/Mercato-l-om-a-fait-une-premiere-offre-pour-matthis-abline-l-attaquant-de-nantes/1567895), who report that alongside side making bids for Nantes forward Matthis Albine, Marseille have also been offered the Crystal Palace star.
The newspaper explains that the club want to find a player who can compete with Amine Gouiri and have received several offers on that front.
27-year-old Mateta, currently shining under Oliver Glasner at Crystal Palace, was one of the players offered to them. However, he does not ‘fit the bill’, financially speaking.
It is not made clear who offered Mateta to the French club, we would assume his agents and not Crystal Palace, or what kind of price the Eagles would demand for him.
The striker is very much a key player under Glasner, though, so it is hard to imagine them wanting to sell on the cheap. His current deal at Selhurst Park is due to expire in 2026, though, which could push his price tag down considerably if he doesn’t sign a new deal.
Whatever the figures, they weren’t low enough for Marseille, who have their attention focused elsewhere despite being offered the striker.
