The agent of Getafe attacker Christantus Uche has poured cold water on reports linking his client with Leeds United, branding such talk as mere “fiction”.
Claims in recent days have suggested that Leeds, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Brentford are among a handful of clubs who have registered interest in the Nigerian, who recorded four goals and seven assists in 38 matches last season.
The growth of unsubstantiated speculation this week has prompted Uche’s representative, Peter Ejiasi, to speak out and rubbish inaccurate rumours. The agent, while not ruling out a potential exit, said his client is settled at Getafe and set the record straight on the links with the Premier League.
"There is nothing in those stories,” Ejiasi told domestic-based All Nigeria Soccer. “Uche is a happy player of Getafe and is currently in Russia fully committed to his national team duties.
"We are calm. When the transfer window opens, you’ll hear a lot of news - some fiction, some gossip. It's still too early to say what (the outcome) can be, even though it is a good thing for the lad. It shows he is doing something right."
Uche is a versatile central attacker who is predominantly a centre-forward but also has the ability to operate as an attacking midfielder or supporting striker. The 22-year-old made his senior debut for Nigeria as a substitute in a friendly against Jamaica last week.
Leeds are backed to hunt for a new attacker this summer and have been linked with many names already. However, the club are not yet close to acquiring their first summer signing, with no incomings expected to be formalised in the near future.
