Everton-linked right back Trai Hume has suggested he will not push to leave Sunderland should a big money bid come in for him. The 23-year-old is one of several of the Black Cats’ young squad that caught the eye of Premier League outfits this season. The club’s dramatic return to the top flight, secured in a last-gasp comeback win over Sheffield United in the play-off final, has strengthened their ability to fend off interest in key players.
And that appears to extend to Hume, who has been linked to the Blues, Wolverhampton Wanderers and is also said to have attracted interest from Spain.
Everton enter the summer in need of solving a longstanding issue on the right of the defence. With Ashley Young departing the club this summer, David Moyes has Nathan Patterson and Seamus Coleman at his disposal - should Coleman agree to extend his playing career for another year.
Both have been plagued by injuries across recent years and Moyes is eager to strengthen his options in that position. That ambition is reported to have stretched to Hume, with the Blues boss known to have focused significant attention on the Championship in his hunt for talent.
Hume, a senior Northern Ireland international, appears content where he is, however, telling the Belfast Telegraph: “For me it is a dream come true, getting a chance to play in the Premier League.”
Of the speculation he was a wanted man, he added: “You always get speculation in the summer or winter period that clubs are looking at this or that, but I have always said I love my football at Sunderland, I love the club and I am happy where I am at.
“If anything happens it’s down to the club. I am happy being there. I’ve worked hard to get here and been on a good journey. I won’t stop working to try to get better.
“At Sunderland we have stayed together, and we will try to keep the club where it belongs.”
