Joe Burrow made a promise, and he's sticking to it. The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback and former LSU Heisman Trophy winner hosted his inaugural tee-off at TopGolf Baton Rouge on behalf of the Joe Burrow Foundation on May 31.
The fundraiser brought in over $550,000, and included appearances from various players and staff members from LSU's 2019 national championship football team.
The funds raised on Saturday will go towards more efforts like the "Power of Produce," which allows children to go on healthy-food shopping sprees in both Ohio and Louisiana. In November, Burrow's foundation hosted the food shopping spree at Claiborne Elementary in Baton Rouge.
In his 2019 Heisman speech, Burrow said growing up in his hometown of Athens, Ohio, he witnessed a lot of his peers be hungry and have a limited amount of options to eat.
Others in attendance of Saturday's event included sponsors like Raising Cane's founder Todd Graves, Our Lady of Lake Health, MMR Group and Emergent Method.
"I am thankful to all of the donors and supporters that came out this evening," Burrow said about Saturday's event, according to a press release. "It means a lot to give back to a community that has given me so much already. Baton Rouge will always hold a special place in my heart."
