Celtics and Warriors could swap stars in the offseason

An NBA writer believes the Golden State Warriors could emerge as a realistic suitor for Celtics star Kristaps Porzingis, potentially in a trade involving Jonathan Kuminga this offseason.

The Golden State Warriors and the Boston Celtics are shaping up to be two of the most intriguing teams to watch this offseason.

The Warriors will be looking to upgrade their roster, possibly for one of the final times in the Steph Curry era, as they continue to build around their franchise's biggest star.

On the other hand, the Celtics could be headed in a drastically different direction. With Jayson Tatum likely to miss the entire next season after tearing his Achilles in the playoffs, Boston may consider trading several of their stars and instead focus on building for the 2026 season.

According to NBA analyst and writer Jake Weinbach, the Warriors could emerge as a "realistic" suitor for Celtics big man Kristaps Porzingis this offseason.

Golden State is expected to explore a sign-and-trade involving rising forward Jonathan Kuminga, whose rookie contract expires this summer. The 21-year-old will enter restricted free agency and could be part of a deal that sends Porzingis to the Bay Area.

Porzingis averaged 19.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game in one of his most efficient seasons in recent years. His size, shooting, and rim protection would add a much-needed dimension to the Warriors’ frontcourt.

Kuminga, on the other hand, posted 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game this season, but struggled to carve out a consistent role in the playoffs.

With his development potentially plateauing in Golden State, a fresh start in Boston could benefit both sides.
