Whilst playing for United, in 1968, George Best became the first and only Northern Irish player to win the prestigious Ballon D’or.
On 22nd May 2019, Northern Ireland commemorated the life of United Legend, George Best, by unveiling a life-size bronze statue at their home ground, Windsor Park in Belfast.
United veteran, Jonny Evans, is the latest player to be honoured by the Northern Irish.
On Tuesday 10th June, Evans will be presented with specially commissioned artwork to recognise his incredible international career.

This follows his retirement from professional football, which was announced on 31st May at the age of 37.
Jonny Evans was capped 107 times by his country and also won three Premier League titles, a Champions League, two FA Cups, two League cups and a Club World Cup, while making 537 club appearances for both Manchester United and Leicester.
Evans featured sporadically across United’s unsuccessful 2024/25 season, making only 13 appearances.
Despite the poor season, Evans’ reputation is untainted following his departure, and the United fans continue to echo his name around Old Trafford.
His exit also means that next season will be the first time since 1973-74 that not one player in the United squad will have featured during Sir Alex Ferguson’s 26 year tenure.
Jonny Evans will forever be a fan favourite at Old Trafford, making 161 appearances across his two spells, scoring 4 goals.
He more than deserves the special recognition from his nation, commemorating an incredibly successful career, Jonny Evans will always be a red.
