Thursday night marks the beginning of the NBA Finals between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Indiana Pacers, and fans of both teams are excited and nervous.
But are they the only ones really paying attention?
Speaking on “The Herd,” Jason McIntyre said he isn’t fired up by this year’s Finals and wishes two bigger and more well-known teams with larger stars were playing.
“I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news, but I’m not that excited for these NBA Finals. If I were the NBA, I would’ve changed its motto to: Give me super teams or give me death, because that’s what I like. I like superstars in the NBA finals, and we don’t really have that. We don’t got dynasties, we got debuts. That just isn’t as sexy as what we’ve had here in the last quarter century,” McIntyre said, via Hoop Central.

McIntyre spoke of championships from the recent past that featured people like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, and others battling against each other.
Recently, he has felt lukewarm about the Finals, including matches between the Denver Nuggets and Miami Heat and the Milwaukee Bucks and Phoenix Suns.
The NBA is going through changes and is about to name its seventh different champion in seven years.
That shows that the league is transforming, and young, up-and-coming stars are on the rise.
Therefore, there will be voices like McIntyre’s, people who wish they were witnessing a battle between teams and players that have deep histories, rivalries, and stories.
But that is all built over time.
Right now, this faceoff between the Thunder and Pacers might feel boring to some, but that may not be the case in a few years, especially if Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Tyrese Haliburton continue to become superstars.
