West Ham enquired about 27 y/o Chelsea ace during conversations for Mohammed Kudus

West Ham United forward Mohammed Kudus has been offered to Chelsea, and the Blues are considering a swoop for the Ghanaian international.

The former Ajax star has an £85 million release clause, but Chelsea are not keen on activating it. Reports claim they are offering a host of players to bring the price down.

It has now emerged that during discussions, [West Ham asked Chelsea about the potential availability of their goalkeeper Robert Sanchez](http://skysports.com/football/news/11095/13379651/mohammed-kudus-chelsea-offered-chance-to-sign-west-ham-forward).

[It was not so long ago that we called the interest](https://westhamblog.co.uk/posts/west-ham-set-to-part-ways-with-goalkeeping-coach-xavi-valero-graham-potter-wants-chelsea-man-to-replace-him/). Manager Graham Potter worked with Sanchez at Brighton.

We figured Sanchez would somehow enter the frame immediately after news broke that Potter wanted to work with Chelsea goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts again.

Roberts reportedly shares a father-son relationship with Sanchez. Unsurprisingly, they are being linked to West Ham.

Despite posting the third-highest save success rate in the Premier League last season (73.6%), no player made more errors leading to opposition goals than Sanchez (5) in 2024/25.

Chelsea may have boasted the third-best defensive record in the division, but for a team with title ambitions, they need sturdy hands, which the 27-year-old does not provide.

There is a reason they are in the market for a new goalkeeper. The Hammers must avoid Sanchez.

If West Ham want a keeper from the Chelsea ranks, they should be asking for Djordje Petrovic, who enjoyed a sensational campaign on loan in France.

Among goalkeepers with at least 20 appearances in Ligue 1 during the 2024/25 season, only Brice Samba (38%) kept a clean sheet in a higher percentage of games than Petrovic (32%).

Only Marcin Bulka (74.7%) posted a better save rate than the former New England Revolution star (74.5%).

His shot-stopping also had a massive impact on Strasbourg’s defensive record.

According to Opta’s expected goals on target (xGOT) model, he prevented 10.4 goals, conceding 36 times from shots collectively worth 46.4 xGOT.

The Serbian also stood out for his distribution. Petrovic led all Ligue 1 goalkeepers in both touches (1,736) and successful passes (1,117).

Petrovic set a Ligue 1 record (since 2006/07) for touches (79) and successful passes (64) by a goalkeeper in a single match against Rennes on February 2.

He is the complete package and comes with Premier League experience. The Irons should pounce.
